What we do and how we do it

THE
PRACTICE OF
small groups

What

The Practice of a Panahpur Retreat includes the following seven elements.

1
Silence and reflection
2
Looking to the natural world as a source of wonder and wisdom
3
Telling someone else’s story
4
Introductions of who is in the room by others
5
Willingness to give and receive
6
Harvesting and sharing
7
Hospitality

How

In all of our incompleteness and contradictions we seek to be a community of leaders who…

1
Love from the centre of who we are
2
Hold on for dear life to good
3
Practice playing second fiddle
4
Value hospitality
5
Speak well of our competitors
6
Discover beauty in everyone
7
Value interdependency

SPACE

With so many demands, pressures on leaders - all at an adrenaline fuelled pace - we believe that we all need time to slow down, to reset, to engage with nature and re-fuel.

Our first Retreat was in Chennai, India, and our second was outside London. They have brought together like-minded leaders from the worlds of Impact Investment, Banking, Political Think Tanks, B-corporation, Theatre, Music, Food, Media, Ethical Fashion and Non-profits.

PRACTICE

We go through the practice together and use different conversational techniques to focus on certain questions. Initially we chose these:

1
How can those leading in an emerging emergency thrive, personally, over the long term?
2
How can focused, over-burdened leaders find one another – to celebrate each other, to support each other, to find opportunities to combine efforts for greater effect?
3
How can this good news see the light of day in a media system which rewards bad news and self-promotion?
